Omega-3

Omega 3 fatty acids are essential for the human health, but are not manufactured in the body. Omega 3 must be obtained from foods like fish and plant foods. Omega 3 must be balanced by Omega 6.

Omega-3 fatty acids help reduce inflammation and most omega-6 fatty acids tend to promote inflammation. An inappropriate balance of these essential fatty acids contributes to the development of disease while a proper balance helps maintain and even improve health. A healthy diet should consist of roughly one omega-3 fatty acid to four omega-6 fatty acids. The typical American diet tends to contain 11 to 30 times more omega-6 fatty acids than omega-3 fatty acids, and many researchers believe this imbalance is a significant factor in the rising rate of inflammatory disorders in the United States.

When I began to use Omega 3 in my diet (pills, salmon, etc.) I noticed a distinct change in my inflammatory markers (blood tests). My energy increased some and so did my resistance to infections.

Side-effects:
Can cause your blood to thin so do not take when you are on bloodthinners. Consult your doctor first.

For more information about the uses of Omega-3 fatty acids go here.

My Analysis: Since inflammation of the blood vessels is the main side effect of Vasculitis disease, I started using this supplement to help me overcome this problem. My doctor was amazed that my inflammatory markers dropped in about a month. A combination of medication and this supplement helped me to go into remission this summer.

In our discussion group, we encourage our group to try out Omega 3 (salmon) under their doctor's care. So far (except for those with heart problems) most have been pleased with the affect of this supplement on their health.

Go Omega-3!
