Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation

When we came back to the States from Europe, we found that there was a lot of problems with drug addiction especially meth. For some reason, meth labs and meth addiction seems to have swept through Nevada in the population centers.

This last year, the State put together a program about drug addiction aimed at scaring teenagers straight. I guess from the program that many of the drug addicts in Nevada are school-age.

Stone Hawk Rehabilitation has a good program to help drug and alcohol addiction. They use the Narconon program that puts more emphasis on abilities instead of the disabilities of the addict. According to this rehabilitation center, alcohol and drugs affect the mind. Literally, the mind is different under the addiction. Many addicts are not only addicted, but also have some sort of mental illness (not connected to the addiction.) Drugs and/or alcohol is used to escape those problems. This rehabilitation center helps the addict to get off the drugs/alcohol, emphasize their abilities, and treat mental issues.

Just to interject personal experience. I have never been on any drug except prescription drugs for my disease. But, I did know a man who was on cocaine and heroin in his youth. By the time I met him (in his late 20's), his mind had been completely burned out by the drugs he had ingested. Basically, someone had to be with him at all times or he would just wet his pants. They would lead him around by the hand.

I had never seen the after-effects of addiction. His family used to tell me that he had been extremely intelligent before the drugs. It was hard to believe.

So if you are addicted, treating that addiction is very vital for a better life.
